Heart Symbol

Heart Symbol

Roberts Berrie products carry the Finnish Heart Symbol. The Heart Symbol is a nutrition label found on food products and in restaurants, indicating that a product or meal is a healthier choice within its category. The Heart Symbol was developed to make everyday food choices easier and quicker. By choosing products with the Heart Symbol, you can make small but meaningful improvements to your diet without having to study ingredient lists or nutritional information in detail.

A product carrying the Heart Symbol is a healthier option within its own product category. In practice, this means that a Heart Symbol yogurt is a healthier choice among yogurts, and a Heart Symbol muesli is a healthier choice among mueslis. Products awarded the Heart Symbol contain healthier fats, moderate amounts of salt and sugar, and a good amount of dietary fibre.

The Heart Symbol system is based on product categories, of which there are more than 50. Each category has its own nutritional criteria focusing on the factors most relevant to health and nutrition. For example, in bread, the key criteria are the amounts of salt and fibre, while in spreads, the emphasis is on the amount of unsaturated fat. The criteria are based on scientific nutritional research and dietary recommendations, and they are continuously updated by an independent expert group as nutrition science and food products evolve.

The Heart Symbol is a nutrition claim registered within the European Union and is the only symbol in Finland that communicates the nutritional quality of a food product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything worth knowing — answered.

Still curious?

Write us at hello@robertsberrie.com

What's actually in it?

As much whole wild berry as we can fit. Take the wild bilberry Berrie, for example: a 100 ml cup contains 40% whole crushed wild bilberry — around 139 berries. The rest: 10% bilberry juice, apple to balance the acidity, lemon juice, citrus fiber, and potassium sorbate as a preservative.

Are there any preservatives in it?

Yes, potassium sorbate — and it's the product's only additive. It's one of the most widely approved preservatives, and the sorbic acid it's based on occurs naturally in things like rowanberries. Without it, a cup wouldn't last for months at room temperature.

Is there added sugar?

No extra sugar is added in the process of production. The sweetness comes from the berry and fruit: it contains sweetening apple extract, which balances the berries acidity.

Isn't this just juice?

Not at all. Juice removes the fibre, skin, and seeds — everything that carries the polyphenols and anthocyanins. We crush the whole berry and leave everything in.

Why does it taste sweet if there's no added sugar?

Wild berries are naturally sweet — especially bilberries, which have high levels of fructose and flavonoids, that give it it's signature flavour.

Does it need refrigeration?

Not unopened. The package keeps at room temperature until the best-before date, roughly 6 months from production. After opening, refrigerate: a cup is best drunk within a few days, while a pouch or bag-in-box stays stabile for at least a month in the fridge.

Why is the shipping expensive?

Cold chain logistics for fresh, un-preserved product from Finland cost what they cost. We price shipping at cost, never as a margin line.

How many berries are actually in a cup?

As much whole wild berry as we can fit. Take the wild bilberry Berrie, for example: a 100 ml cup contains 40% whole crushed wild bilberry — around 139 berries. The rest: 10% bilberry juice, apple to balance the acidity, lemon juice, citrus fiber, and potassium sorbate as a preservative.
